Ok, another beer and back to the topic. Why the site is here... When I first saw mention of it on vld forum I suppose I assumed it was to help those who purchased the software. But after receiving last months newsletter, it appears I was completely wrong about that and my appologies for asking radioact a question. To whom it may concern, it most definately won't happen again.
"Doing bathroom renovations in Bondi, Sydney". And I had a steak and bake for dinner. With greens of course. Couple slices of texas toast also.
So maybe I should just come here, keep my mouth shut and click on ads??? Is that what is expected of members to this lovely place?
Seems I got sidetracked from my intentions. My intention was to reply , via your "newsletter", to the post by somebody about features. Which when I replied, I got cut off at 1500 characters and I wasn't quite finished, but I see here I still have 13,518...
I been around a while just haven't seen much need to use vld forums as the only topics that appear to get a quick response is the "pre-sales questions". There are some helpful members to a degree. But if it were me trying to sale a product I'd probably use a different approach and be a bit more helpful. I realize they most likely are trying to capitalize on any modifications, but I and apparently others would rather be able to fix something if it breaks.
Alot of people seem to only have great praise for vldp. Yeah, well I figure since I paid good money for it, I don't need to market it. My opinion is, its just ok. And far from being ready to launch, as is.
There's alot of things I removed because I didn't find them appropiate. Hot-or-Not is childish as I see it. Not everybody is Hot. It could be very easy to offend with that and as hard as it is for me to land a member, I prefer not to have anything on the site that could detract them.
"Events" is something else I removed. Any event could better be arranged in a forum under different categories.
Plentyoffish is a good example of how to administer a dating site that is clean and efficient. They claim to be the biggest and I have no doubt.
"Guestbooks", is another total waste of energy that could have been better spent on something of real value. You allready have the capability to send winks and private messages.
"Albums" , another waste as I see it. Just something to have to remove. I've used dating sites myself. I know whats easy for me to use. Having all the photo's in one place is by far better. Sure you can mod that, but I've spent quite a bit of time simply removing stuff I found totally useless.
As for mods , I see some reference to ska date. I checked it out a bit. I wasn't impressed. But I will tell what I was impressed with. osDate. Free open source. GNU
I actually have it installed but have found it not quite as stable as I would like. But it has ALL the features I consider thats needed to run a dating site the way it should be done. Has photo's loaded by the visitors ip address on homepage, via a database. Ability to incorporate various bulletin boards. Even has a plugin that will automatically generate as many profiles according to gender that you choose. And comes with 2500 images and user names. Takes about 10 seconds to generate 2500 profiles.
It also comes stock with country, state, city dropdown menu that works flawlessly.
Someone mentioned vld quoted them a price of 100.00 for the dropdown menu.
Thats #### ridiculous. I have this mod and several others. Done in Bangladesh for 10 bucks. I have geo-location with a database. Drop down menu= 10 bucks.
I have auto-generate profiles= 10 bucks. And I own them exclusively.
My intention here is to inform the unknowing before sinking alot of money into something that only a few will make money from, to check around. With scriptlance and rent-a-coder as a buyer you do not pay until you're satisfied with deliverables.
I can only wish that I had saw a post like this before I purchased the software. Not to say I wouldn't have bought it, but would had a better idea of what I was getting into. There just appears to be far too much praise but I do see some who appear to be,"unsettled". Just reluctant to "rock" the boat.
As far as recommendations? If any one asked me about the software, I wouldn't tell them it was bad. Price was cheapest I could find.Technical help after sale? I'd instruct them to look in the forums. Most all the help come from members. If vldp even bothered to answer a post it was very, very short. And very ,very vague.
Members shouldn't have to help and if it wasn't for them, alot of people would be screwed , probably out of their money and as I see it, there wouldn't be any help.
As Walter Cronkite said so elegantly, "And that's the way it is, on this 11th day of February in the year 2010". Goodnight and God Bless. View Comments & Reply...
As a minimum for video marketing you should:
1. Create a video or use images with special effects to create a video. There are tons of video software. Even windows comes with their own version of video editing software, however, if you want to search out more options check out www.download.com. You could also use some of the online sites to do your video/image creation. I use http://animoto.com/
2. Keywords for your video marketing is as important is it is for marketing your site for search engines. The beauty of video marketing is that your video could be indexed by google so those who are searching for online dating sites, could find your video in their search results as well as it being found when searching on youtube. If you are not familiar with the importance of keywords, STOP, do nothing else until you did some research otherwise your marketing efforts will be a waste of time. The best place to research is google -- try these SEARCH RESULTS or visit some of the more popular marketing/webmaster forums like Digital Point or Sitepoint.
3. Audio can make or break a video. I usually use music with my videos. You have to be careful because of copyright violations, however, there is a little test you can do to see if the music you want to use with your video is acceptable on youtube. What I do is search youtube for the music I want to use. If it is already on youtube, than good chance that you can use it in your video.
4. Make sure to render your video in a format acceptable for uploading to youtube. I’m not going to go over video formats since all the instructions for formatting and uploading video to youtube is posted on youtube site.
5. If you have a good audio editor, consider enhancing the audio before merging with your video. If you download your audio from the net or youtube, the sound quality and volume will be low. A good audio editor can improve the sound quality. I usually edit the audio and increase the sound for my videos knowing that when I upload my videos to youtube, they will convert the audio to mono.
Search Engines
Ultimately you want all your marketing efforts to somehow be recognized by search engines (i.e. google). Recently google announced it is going to start indexing content from twitter, and facebook sites. When I read the announcement, I realized how RSS marketing could play an important role in adding content to my twitter and facebook accounts to be indexed by google (I wrote about RSS at vldForum). Currently, as I write this, google has indexed images, content and video from all my sites to be found when using keyword searches related to online dating. However, content is still the number one search criteria for my sites and probably the most important.
Revenue Sharing
Many people who are good at making popular videos get paid for uploading their videos to youtube -- called Revenue Sharing. Recently I got an email from youtube asking me if I wanted to join their Revenue Sharing program. My videos are far from being so popular that they will make a lot of money, but it is nice to know they are popular enough to be found by others. My main reasons for uploading videos is to drive traffic to my sites. If I’m lucky, my videos may be embedded on other sites to help spread the word (viral marketing) and increase traffic.
Every Little Bit Helps
With my niche, I have to rely on an accumulative effort rather than putting all my eggs in one basket for my marketing campaigns. If I focused on one marketing campaign, I doubt if my results would be very good or at least it would take quite some time before I saw any substantial traffic for my efforts. Instead, I focus on doing many things with the hope that each marketing campaign will contribute to the overall accumulative effort of bringing good traffic to my sites. So far it has worked out well. I highly recommend video marketing but don’t make it your only marketing effort, but one of many marketing campaigns to help bring traffic to your vldPersonal site.
Good Luck!

I did a test and logged in as a Gold member and was able to see another members Gift message that he received from a women member. Is this working as designed or is this a bug. I do not think members will be happy about this.
From CP settings you can set Guestbook so only the owner can view their messages..Gifts should work the same. View Comments & Reply...
This extension displays all or certain member's albums, syntax of calling similar to {pictures:} extension.
Example: {albums:limit=10} to be placed to homepage.tpl and will display sitewide albums. {albums:limit=10,member_id=member_id} would display certain member's albums, to be placed to member_profile.tpl or/and account_home.tpl
This extension doesn't display friends only or password protected albums.
